well ive just been out to the avaries and have heard baby orange breasts(goldbreasts)after some much bad luck with them. bout 14months ago (price was $45pr) i bought a pr to go in me big avairy then 6 weeks later or so i lost the cock bird so i waited until the next local monthly avicultua meeting where they have members birds for sale and got a cock bird for $15 . put in the avairy thena few week later the new cock bird went missing again. so i bought a new cock bird from the monthly meeting again for now $20. so put it in the avairy then the hen bird went missing bout 5months ago or so. at this point i wass bout to give up with them and give the cock bird to me dad for new blood. then a bout n6 weeks ago i saw an ad in the Quokka(state wide for sale news paper for everything) for orange breast hens at $35 each bit dear i thought but ill give them another go so i got it. then i thought i will get the cock out from the big cage and put the pr into me new flight avairy , which had pr of pied seagreen parrot finches and pr of ruddys. put them in and both the ruddys were attacking the orangebreast so i thought ill take the orangies out a move and put them in were me one of me Prefab avairy and take a pr of doublebars out and put them in the flight. within a week or 2 both the orangies and double bars started building nest. now the orangies have babies i can hearbut not to sure bout the doublebars. So i ahve now finnaly had succes with them after so much trouble with them .

Hi Chris. I know how you you feel. I'm sure that there is a critical size where you don't feel the pain and frustration of apparently consistant "bad luck". I know I'm nowhere near that size (<40 birds, 10 species) but when that magic happens and they breed it's a fantastic feeling. Most aviculturists too are real conservationist and protectors of germlines that have sustained themselves without wild inputs or imports for such a long time and they have done so without goverment assistance and often against the imposts of goverment directives. Its a great story and love hearing of these successes.

well an update on the pair. just cant seem to stop them now the first clutch they had the chicks died then went straight back to nest and had 2 young which i didnt even think they were nesten still. then once they were weaned they went back to nest and now have brought out 4 young. last week at work i spotted a pied orange breast hen so now i need to pr her up with a cock bird
