Thank; yes...much of Monseratt's wildlife faces serious threats. Awhile back I worked with a native frog, which feeds its tadpoles by expelling unfertilized eggs among them. it and relatives are locally called "Mountain Chickens"; hunted to near extinction and difficult to impossible to breed commercially in large numbers. While checking out the link above I came across the Montserrat Mountain Chicken link? What the hell is Mountain Chicken? Well it's a Frog about the size of a dinner plate. I have been amazed by the the large varieties of Frogs ever since they kept me awake for days while exploring the South American forests, especially their shape, size, color and song. Every Frog has it's own song and some can be very scary if you don't know who makes those sounds. Anyhow here is a video of the Montserrat Mountain Chicken feeding her own young.

Thanks...I was just thinking of looking for a video I had seen awhile back. I've worked with many frog species.... you have some amazing ones in Australia; a relative of the Mt Chicken, the Smoky Jungle Frog, lays eggs on land and the tads seem to eat the frothy nest if rains do not wash them into a stream. I bred them at the Bx Zoo, but raised the tads in water and so did not get to see the nest-eating behavior; well, keeps things interesting! Thanks again, Frank

Yes...thanks. I actually have a "white noise machine" to help me sleep at night; has frog sounds but I tend to llie there and focus on them too much, so I use the "plain" white noise. But I do enjoy hearing them; even near my home, just outside NYC, I can hear several species. Best, Frank
