I saw an ad this morning from someone around here selling 'Jarvis Finches'. I guess that's a typo and they mean Java Finches. So I was wondering how aggressive would they be in a mixed aviary?

There one of the bigger finch species and quite easy to breed and can sometimes can be aggressive to small finches like Fires, cordons

Depends on the individual birds...some can be...some will get to the top pecking order by bluff...depends also on aviary size and number of other birds in the aviary...also always make sure more then 2 nests per each pair of birds and I use 2 feeding areas....but I kept them in an aviary of very large proportions...

Yes they generally are too aggressive & imposing for a mixed finch aviary where reasonable breeding prospects are the aim from most or all species. Especially if some of the others are small & placid.

I agree with the have lots of nesting options, particularly include a nice big 20/25cm square wooden box. And a couple of feeding stations. In this situation my Javas have not proven a problem. But I do remove the young to a holding avairy as soon as they are weaned and flying comfortably. And this avairy has everything from the Javas down to Orange Breasteds.

They can be agressive, depending on individuals. I kept mine with zebs, bengalese & a variety of doves and neophemas. I pulled them outa the rarer finch aviary as they were too dominating. In addition to whats suggested above, offer a variety of brush for protection. mine, strangely hated diamond doves, possibly due to similar colours. Mine bred very well in sparser aviaries in slightly larger nest boxes as suggested above, ie 20cm by 25cm
