Hi Shanney2,
To answer your question, the Lutino mutation in Indian Ringnecks is a Sex Linked mutation to only the male can be split to Lutino. If the female carries the Lutino (or any other sex linked mutation such as cinnamon or blue Ino ie Albino) it will be visual ie it will be that mutation such as Lutino.
If you take the blue mutation, it is a simple recessive mutation, so either male or female can be split.
BUT, if you look at Lutino in love birds ie Fischers or Nyasa's the Lutino mutation is recessive not sex linked... Just to keep it simple...
Hope that helps and hasn't confused you more...
Cheers,
Tim

mutations will be either sex linked, recessive or dominant, in a sex linked mutation only the male can be split, the female will show any mutation it carries (because the female has the odd set of sex chromosomes) in a recessive mutation either sex can be split as the mutation is on a normal chromosome and all birds carry two copies, a dominant mutation neither bird can be split as the mutation shows when only one copy is present. So it is important to know what type of mutation you are talking about.
