Hi all,

I decided to take the advice of a fellow mule breeder and try a new method out.

I took a hen who laid clear eggs but was a good sitter and gave her a weeks break after destroying her dead nest. I then picked my goldfinch cock who has been courting the goldfinch hen in my aviary and put him in with the canary. I noted the canary had already half built a new nest before the goldie joined her.

The goldie is singing and courting and the hen laid an egg this morning or yesterday (which I removed and replaced with a dummy.

My question is should I expect the egg(s) be fertile?

I usually bonded and prepped the birds together for longer and used a male canary with first clutch (which I did but they were clear). The Goldfinch is in top condition and was courting his female goldfinch companion then was thrown in with a nest hungry hen canary......Was told this way is an effective way to produce them but I am not sure.

Any feedback would be great.

Thanks

I don't know about 'expect' them to be fertile, but it seems worth a go.
This morning I let a goldfinch hen out of the cabinet she has shared with a canary cock for a few months; they just didn't get on together, I think....
