Lack of people & birds for sale airlie beach

Hi guys
I've been on this site for only a year now, but it's sad to see how few people are into our great little birds. There are so few birds for sale and very few articles of interest on specific birds. It would be great to see a trade system between members, I just think there is no trust between people these days!

You could always write a few articles that are more in line with your specific area of interest. Or start a thread or two and see if it generates any interest.

On selling, it is up to the individual how and to whom they sell their birds. Contacts made through bird clubs are how a lot of stock gets sold before it ever ends up in the sales section.

Jason,i don't understand what you mean,are you talking about lack of people/birds for sale in Airlie Beach or on this forum,there's not many people for sale down here either but there's plenty of birds. Craig

Jason, you are in a beautiful area but as you say there is not many breeders nor sellers up you way as the population is just not there to support the hobby as it is in Brisbane and other major cities. Your closest bet would be to talk with the few Townsvile breeders, hell there is even some finch breeders down at Gumlu and Guthalungra (spelling??). Unfortunately they dont deleve into the high end birds as there is just not a market for them - how many people can afford some bishop weavers or mesia, or PK robins.
You might also note that one of your closest club is in Townsville and then there is the Qld Finch Society (aprox 1000 memebers) who hold out of town meetngs at various centres up the qld coast. Dont forget to register for the Finches 14 conference !!!! - great place to meet the people that just dont have to advertise here as they are well established and recognised breeders. Then there is the QFS monthly magazine complete with buy/sell/trade pages.

Then there is the National finch and softbill association, they just had a coference in Vic.

A memeber on here who shall remain nameless and goes by his avatar "Danny" has also set up a just finches trading site on facebook.

One thing to note that there is seasonal trends and now is a low season as the breeding season is still on and young are just colouring - I am not trying to boast but colouring up in the holding cage at present are bullies, crimsons, plums, song sparrows, maddy and grenidier weavres, YH Siskins, BBBQ, BH pigeons, Javan and WH Munia, painteds, California quails etc that I can think of. Hopefully most of these will be coloured for the May sale in Brisbane, if they dont go before hand through word of mouth. I had a guy take 8 uncoloured GS sparrows before they even got to the holding cage. So some of the comments below are very true wrt trading within the finch world.

You are lkley to see a lot more adds after the sales and that is for a reason.

Dont be afraid to ask and put it out there what you want to as mentioned below - raise the topic, you may get a heap of replies - qualified and unqualified - take them and sort the wheat from the chaff and use the stuff that works for you.

Your right, trust does take a while to come and once you know who are reputable breeders they then become trustworthy. I remeber asking an old timer at the local finch club about acuiring some BH Pigeons - all I got back was you young fellas want everything too fast - needless to say I looked elsewhere and met a really nice old chap down on the Gold Coast that just embodied professionalism and decency (even put on morning tea when I picked up the birds) and he also provided his secrets on breeding them - I havent looked back - he embodies the spirit of a true breeder rather then a commercial breeder.

Dont get too disheartened too quickly - just put some time into your networks.

I teater on the edge of the finch breeding fraternity for last few years after a 10 yr break and can see your view, take what trilobite has said about networking and i am certain before you know it you will have a solid network .

Clubs and putting yourself out there helps.
