Hi All,
The numbers have just come in and it looks like a great turn out for the Manly Warringah Cage Bird Show this year.
There are a total of 750 entries for various types of birds.
Amongst other Finches being benched at the show, there is going to be a particularly good turn out for Bengalese Finches this year and there are 60 Bengalese registered for the show.
There will be Pied, Chocolate Self, Chestnut Self, Ginger Self, Pastels, Suffused, Silvers, Dilute Chocolate and Crested Bengos represented.
The Australian Bengalese Breeders Society (ABBS) are looking forward to having a good presence of Bengalese at the show and we look forward to seeing some of you there.

You will all be able to recognise my birds, they will be the ones with the black stripes.
I finished painting the wire fronts today so I am sure with the humidy around they will still be a bit sticky come friday when I put them in.
Seriously though there will be 40+ exhibitors with some of the best birds in the state and maybe even the country. There are at least 3 exhibitors that took out Champion in their variety at the (Adelaide) National last year.
There will be very strong competion in the Border, Gloster, Reds and Yorkshire Canaries. A good selection of Zebras, Foreign and Australian Finches, quite a few African lovebirds, Standard/Bush and minature budgies and even some parrots. Plus the largest display of Self colour Bengalese seen in many years
Hope some of you can make it
Regards
Bob

Here is a belated update on the 55th Annual Many Warringah Show
The Manly Show was a great success. Where the weather was not particularly favorable to have many visitors other than those associated with the show there was still a good turn out.
There was a great assortment of cage bird being shown including Budgies, Canaries, Finches and Parrots. There was a total of 750 birds entered in the Show.
Within our Finch competition the Bengalese had a significant presence with 57 entries from 6 exhibitors. There were 29 Self Coloured birds showing and in the open class for Self there was a total of 16 entries, which presented strongly against the number of the more popular Canary breeds. The Bengalese were judged by Geoff Roberts and Geoff made mention that it was the best turn out of Self Bengalese that he had seen for a long time and 16 entries in Open and 13 entries in the Young Self Classes was a good achievement.
Within the Australian Bengalese Breeders Society (ABBS) we had a good presence and in particular it was fantastic that some of our members took the trip down from the Gold Coast and Grafton to support the promotion of the Bengalese Finch here in Sydney and in General. It was a very enjoyable day where many members met in person for the first time after previous long distance communications.
The Manly Warringah Show awards a prize for Champion Bengalese (Cash and 10kgs of seed) and the ABBS also provided an encouragement award for best Open (20 kg bag of Seed, 4 Gouldian Style Nest Boxes & 4 Stone-wear Bowls), Young (20 kg bag of Seed, 4 Gouldian Style Nest Boxes & 4 Stone-wear Bowls)and Champion self (an additional $20 & $50 vouchers from our sponsor Bird Dealers and 2 Nest boxes).
There was a great deal of discussion overheard about the Bengalese during the day and it appeared that our objective of promoting the Bengalese was quite successful at least at this show.
During the course of the day the few Members of the ABBS gathered together as planned, to discuss together our views for the first time.
The group discussion included;
5 Sydney ABBS members
1 northern NSW ABBS member
1 Qld ABBS member
2 Sydney visitors
Total of 9 participants in the first ABBS Meeting
Here are some images from the day.
Thanks to all involved.

The odds of something similar in WA are probably 1%. Restricted to no more than 20 Bengos per breeder, as we are. Glad to see you guys and gals are making it happen.
