Hi Reg. You remembered about Aussies not being much into Halloween (except if they live in an American compound in the Philippines) but you forgot about the date-line so you were a day late. There is no equivalent to Halloween. The only day Australians commemorate the dead is ANZAC day and it is a far more sloemn affair than Halloween - think Vetrans Day but with a touch of Independance day as it's considered the country's comming of age on April 25, 1915 on the shores of Gallipoli in Turkey.
Here in the Philippines there is a touch of Americana still as the USA very much revered here. Halloween gets mixed up with All Saint's day which is their most sacred holiday when everyone goes to the cemetary to commune with their deceased ancestors and have a picknick. Yesterday I saw at the local cemetary, here in Los Banos, a Halloween Special - 20% off all grave sites for those visiting today (November 1).
