Hi all
Hope someone can help!
Recently had two painteds fledge.
All was going fine until today when I noticed one has two infected lumps on either side of the head near or in the ears.
Has anyone seen this before.
The birds health is diminishing rapidly, as this morning it seemed ok and now it looks like its dying!
Sorry having issues uploading images.
Will try later.

Have sent pics .
Thanks for your help.
Doubt the bird will be alive in the morning.
Just thought I should mention that the parent cock bird has signs of scaly face and was thinking this may have been passed on.
Also live in an area of brisbane that has a lot of mozzies and I know painteds are prone to being bitten.
Really annoyed how a heathy chick can deteriorate so quickly.
Would appreciate any feedback.

Poor baby, doesn't look well at all, that will be one hell of an ear ache! Maybe a weak solution of Dettol and keep inside and warm may help. As its both side of the head Im leaning towards infection rather than a bite/sting

If its not yet dead, I'd put it out of it's misery. Must have a hell of head-ache.

keep an eye on all the others , they may need preventive treatment if it is contagious

Thanks for the replies but as expected the bird was dead the next morning.
Whatever that condition was it hit hard and fast.
Rest of flock seem ok.
Sole surviving chick seems fine.
Parents going to nest again.
I'm learning fast that you are going to experience losses in this game and there is not much you can do about it .
Thanks again.
