copper in water

I personally would not add anything to my birds water and would prefer to be diligent in cleaning the water containers out as I do each week rather than experimenting with my birds. I rotate my water containers and when they form algae quickly I take the unit out and soak in bleech and then rinse it very well before leaving it in the sun (best sanitiser on the market). This usually means the container does not algae up and I stick with my weekly rinse and refill regime.

I thought I would resurrect this thread because I have just been reading about poultry keepers using acidified copper sulphate as, apparently, a very effective coccidia treatment with additional benefits. Does anyone have experience with this material?
The poultry person said:
"[Acidified] Copper Sulfate works very well in curing Coccidiosis. Dissolve one pound of Acidified Copper Sulfate into one [US] gallon of water. This is your base solution. ... Take one ounce out of your base solution and put into one [US] gallon of drinking water. Use as the only water source for seven days. It will clean them out and help to worm them also. I have used it for years with good results."
Now chickens and finches are not the same, so do we know whether this is a viable and safe option for finch aviaries?

I think the copper sulphate is in a blue powder form and readily available at rural outlets and some pet shops. I think its used to clear water in troughs etc .. not 100% sure and what else they sell it for.

Copper sulphate is usually white or rather colourless in its anhydrous state. However, its Hygroscopic and pentahydrate state or form is usually blue in colour..

In people,I believe the MSDS says that Copper Sulphate is - if exposed to it over a long period of time -can cause some health issues (???) ...
I would not be using this substance as a preventative.
Maybe is a "professional" product with it as the active ingredient but not as is, so to speak. IMO

This is the exact looking product that I was talking about in the rural shops.
It looks like it is has a medical use for horses atleast. It is usually found beside milled sulphur and the other white powder I cant recall.

To clarify, the recommendation is for acidified copper sulfate, which appears to be just copper sulfate pentahydrate + citric acid(?).
Don't go experimenting with copper sulfate just as is.
