Ok bit of a newbie question but i ordered myself in a heap of maggots from my work and in the tubs they come in they are kept in like a very dark soil almost compost potting mix.

Is it ok to feed them to my birds if i just rinse the maggots off under tap water?

Was just worried about the maybe hosting tapeworm or something.

Thanks guys

they should be ok to feed as they are, providing they were breed in a clean fly box.the maggots themselves should look creamy in colour with no dark stripe in them ,if they have the dark stripe they are not cleaned out enough to feed to your birds (it can give them the runs)the poting mix is actually bran or pollard its pretty safe for the birds they wont really eat it. dont wash it off as you may cause more problems by wetting the mix ....pete
