I have been listening to the rooster scream his lungs out for the last two and a half weeks.

No sign of a nest in the brush or anywhere I would have suspected.

I was taking some snaps with my phone and notices a finch basket stuffed with nest material.

Its a cup nest and the siskins are my only cup nesters in the aviary.

I can hear his defensive calls and also what is most likely a courtship song.

I am keeping well away and providing the right amount of greens, sunflower seed and niger.

Would I be right to expect to see some eggs in the nest week or so?

From what I understand about siskins they don't muck around once starting to build...its after the chicks have hatched is where the problems set in.

Are you sure its a siskin nest? They're usually neater and just made out of coconut fibre. I guess if no coconut fibre is around then they'd make one like this.

Assuming it is siskins then just leave it alone. You can check the nest but don't move it. I suppose you're feeding niger and other oily seeds, and mine scoff maggots too.
