More than one way to get an insect

I found a bag that had some bran in it. There has been a hatch of flour moth in it. I thought if I put the bag in the aviary and open it, the moths will fly out and the honeyeaters can catch them. This bugger couldnt wait, I thought he was going to go in the bag at one stage, but instead, he poked little holes in the plastic and grabbed the moths.

I regularly do this. I leave part of a bag of pollard open in the shed & once infested with flour moth larvae I scoop out a couple of cups of the pollard (inc. moths & larvae) & offer to my softbills in plastic kitty-litter trays on the floor of their aviary. Another good source of free livefood.

The small beetles/weevils that sometimes infest seed/flour are also relished by the small insect eaters, like orange breasteds.
