Not sure when to remove a young cuban I have. Was the only chick and has been out of the nest about 5-6 weeks. Not sure exactly when as I was away and daughter didn't notice an extra one. The parents have almost finished making another nest and there has been no signs of aggression, however today I noticed the male is preening the young one more and the young one has started to contribute to the nest building. Should I pull her(?) out tomorrow before things get complicated or is this normal?

It would depend on how big your aviary is but sometimes a pr of cubans will allow a single young bird to remain in the aviary up until a certain stage and you might not be around then.I would remove her now just incase the cock bird is breeding with her. Craig

Thanks Craig I pulled her(?) out this morning as I had a feeling there would either be an inappropriate mating occur, even though she's so young or that the female might turn on her and it would be too late to get her out in time. it's sometimes hard to get the timing right and because I was uncertain of the exact day she fledged I wanted to keep them all together as long as was sensible.
This male has so far been perfectly well behaved, but today I saw him display and then chase a star finch for a couple of minutes.
