Just bought a young male (colours just coming through) Red-faced parrot finch.
Noticed when he sings it's quite low pitched / muffled.
Have had males before and they have quite an audible trill.
At first I thought he might have had air sac mite but I don't think this is the case.
Is this normal for juvenile males or have I bought a dud?
Any help would be appreciated.
Cheers

How do you know it's a cock if it is just coming into colour? Craig

Song develops with maturity but I'm with Craig, I have 15 RFPF and struggle to tell cock from hen, even when in full colour. Also, cock birds only seem to get into full song when breeding is nigh. Then the singing is quite noticeable. I say, be patient because it will probably be a while before breeding starts.
