I recently had a pair of split blues pair up despite my best efforts.
They are a good hen and cock respectively as their are seven young in the nest with full crops.
Problem I have now is without any obvious blues I can tell the possible splits from the normals........will have to get more blues next year.
I think the only way I can tell them now is by test breeding next year.
some look slightly different but I think they will all look normal in appearance. my nest with blue babies all have grey skin that was pinky red and white nodules.
The problem with split blues. . .my bad

I heard, and it may be one of those urban myths. That split blues are more bluish than normal greens, but only just. And that it is a difference that women can see better than men. Is it worth getting the good lady to see if she thinks some are bluer than others and try them 1st. And keep records to see if this is so?

hmmm I am certainly not a lady but I can tell in some when a split is next to a known normal.
There is a slight blue hue in some and I have found this to be more prominent in white breasts or red headed birds.
I might be hoping so hard I am seeing things but I believe I can tell some of my spits but they need to be compared to a proven normal bird.
Shame the nodules cant give them away.
Either way I had a peek yesterday and all 7 babies are still going strong. I like BH normal birds so for me to keep some as possible splits would not be the worst thing in the world.

I like BH normal birds so for me to keep some as possible splits would not be the worst thing in the world.
As I have a pair that fit this description that I am trying to get to settle down and breed at the moment, I know the feeling. You must be one of those guys who have the "colour" eye. Seeing this colour difference in birds, fabrics etc. is known to happen with guys. But far more regularly with women. Hope you strike it lucky.
