How did our members In Qld fare during Cyclone Ita? Hope no one suffered too many losses or damage. Would be interesting to hear how they manage severe weather like this and what systems they have in place to minimise losses/damage.

All you do is build aviaries pretty strong (cyclone bolts in shelter sections) and away from trees and low areas.....heavy rain and wind doesnt affect them too much...when I lived in Mackay....my aviary there went through 5 cyclones over the years with no problem....you lost some young and the odd bird... last one I went through was Cyclone Charlie (tail end) we had rain...(7" in an hour and ended up with 124" for the week)....at that stage I was breeding Red Fronted Turks as well as various finches.... bottom of aviary was about 5" deep in water... birds just stayed higher up.... :thumbup:
