One of the "starter pairs" in put in my new aviary was a pair of chocolate Bengalese. I currently have 5 nests hung in the aviary, all different (one vertical hollow log, with hole in the side; one horizontal hollow log, one medium cane finch nest, one triangular cane nest and one finch box). The Bengalese have completely ignored every nest I put in the aviary, choosing to roost on a perch in the same spot each night as far away from other birds as possible. I then put in a couple of tea-tree branches, and the bengo male went crazy; starting to build his own nest within minutes of the branches being added. Is this typical of this species?

Bengo's are lazy nest builders and tend to take over other birds used nests in a mixed aviary even though you had plenty of nest sites there is probably no nesting material in them for them to camp in.They are a bird which need a roosting nest to sleep in,breeding or not. Craig

Mine are typical, in that they grab the best stuffed empty nest and use it. Any type of box, fishing float or whatever will do.
