Got a new bird this morning. ;)

A seagreen parrotfinch. I dont normally name the birds but this one is going to be called Fidget, this is the only pic I managed to get, these birds really dont sit still. I thought I had worked what the movement was around the cage and I positioned the camera accordingly.
This is the only one where I managed to catch the bird, and I didnt want to cause any more stress by snapping away too much.

Parrot finches are active little guys. If it wasn't for his colour you could call him the Scarlet Pimpernel ..........."they seek him here, they seek him there, that dammed elusive Scarlet Pimpernet"

Im not 100% certain what sex it is.
The parents are normal red headed parrotfinches, so Im leaning towards this being a hen.
I think if both the parents are the normal colour, getting a seagreen would mean that the male was split to seagreen and therefore this bird would be a hen...............any thoughts on this?

you are probably correct diane with its sex ,i find the brighter the bib is male.yours looks on the duller side. males can only be split for sea green , hens are either normal or sea green. as for the pairing of the parents not all the hens they produce will be sea green, to get the best looking sea greens , pair a split male to a sea green hen (usually the uglier the better)......pete

Those Parrot finches certainly are active little critters. Someone once told me that if you have a quiet one you have a dead one!

Its nice to have confidence that the birds you have cared for are now in equally caring hands. It was a pleasure to meet you today Diane.
