Hi guys!

I have just joined this forum. It's been over 3 years since the last time kept a few birds at home. I moved from overseas (South America) and used to keep and breed Saffron finch and a few red siskin. I have been always fascinated with these birds and how they sing.

Would anyone know if there is anyone in Australia (maybe in QLD if I'm lucky enough) who keep and trade these birds?

Thanks in advance!!!

Hi Rabucazz & Welcome to the Forum

Saffrons are In Australia but there in low numbers though and Red Siskins more commoner than Saffrons.

The Saffrons in Australia are not the most common form in South America. Ours are Pelzeln's Saffron - nowhere near as colourful as the nominate form of the Saffron Finch.

Welcome to the forum. Sounds like you will be able to get something that interests you and you know something about. Once you have your 5 posts up you will be able to advertise, and see others adverts. So can put a wanted for your Siskins and Saffrons.

Thank you very much guys. I've never been a serious breeder, as I only had a couples of pairs. Besides, I think the way it's done in Australia should be different from what it's done in South America (where I come from).

Anyway, it will be interesting to see how the breeders do it over here, and learn from it.

I look forward to have access to all forum information, specially, photos of the aviaries and birds.

If recall correctly, Pelzeln's Saffron is the Peruvian finch, which is a bit larger, more aggressive, and sings louder. I wouldn't mind keeping this specie at all !
