Hi folks,
In 1988 and 1989, I used to write articles for the Australian Aviculture magazine (I was 16/17 years old - kind of the pre-digital Jayburd) and I contacted the secretary about 3 months ago enquiring whether there were back copies for sale or whether I could obtain photocopies of my articles. Didn't hear anything for about 8 weeks and then got an email in return, saying that the copies I was after had come up at the general meeting, and that he had got them for me! I was really excited and of course enquired about the cost as well as postage and handling. There was no reply, but two days later a parcel arrived with the 24 copies from those years! No charge! I sent off a thank-you email and sat down for a trip down memory lane - and what a trip!
It was a bit of a laugh reading my articles after 25 years, but I have to say I was pretty spot-on for a kid! My titles included 'The longtail finch - a personal favourite', ' The diamond firetail - field and aviary observations', 'Breeding success with the redbrowed firetail', 'The need to concentrate on Australian Finches' and 'Mistakes made, problems solved' and a couple of others...precocious!!
Anyway, I think it was so great of the secretary to forward them to me - nice to reclaim a bit of my past. I'm slowly reading through each mag - so much good info.
Bird people are lovely!
JLuna, isn't it awesome that those people were eager to assist you on your seach to reclaim your past. God love em, people with that kind of heart felt generousity are few and far between. I am happy for you and your story has brightened my evening. Thanks for sharing. Enjoy your articles. Regards.

That is such a good outcome for you, and good on the Secretary for sending them to you, but boy have you let yourself in for something now I know you have written many articles!
