I had a young parrotfinch only been out of the nest a month and a half.it had been fine up until yesterday and when i came home it was sitting in the food dish not moving at all.when i went closer it moved away but would twitch one wing up in the air and would lose balance and stumble around.then every so often it would fly to a perch and do the same thing again.i dont think it had a broken wing as it could fly when it wanted to.i caught it and put it in a small cage but it ended up dying over night.i have never seen it with any of my other birds except from one time i bought another rfpf and it did the same thing 2 days after i got it and ended up dying also.why is it these birds are fine and within 24 hours acting like this and dying?
Any help would be great thanks
strange RFPF behaviour

Hi, I had one do that a couple of weeks ago - I have had it in an aviary for about 6 months, nothing had changed, just found it on the floor, lifting a wing, flapping around like it was broken. I quickly put her in a hospiatal cage with heat and she recovered fully in about 4 days. No idea why it occured, but it could be a common issue.

I had the same thing happen last weekend. I bought 6 young RFPF and put them in a holding cage - 2m x 4m - and 2 days later all was fine in the morning when I fed their fresh picked green seed. An hour later 1 was showing this strange behaviour, so put in hospital cage but it died late afternoon. All others still fine. No idea what happened - still wondering.

Yep I posted same thing about a week ago...just fed fresh green seed and he dropped about 4ft to the floor...thankfully after a few minutes of flapping and rolling he settled ...he is still flying around like normal since then...bizarreBisaloyce wrote:I had the same thing happen last weekend.
