My young Diamond sparrows have just fledged two babies and they have been out for around four days now.The parents are already looking to go back down, but this is where the odd behaviour takes place. When the young Diamond sparrows beg for food,my young Pictorella cock bird races up and feeds them. The Pictorella is also courting his hen at present,so hope he makes a good father.Has anybody else had this type of thing happen?.

Probably because his hormones in breeding mode and young diamonds may sound similiar to young pictorellas?

You get all sorts of oddities out there. I had a pair of crimsons take over a nest of silverbills and rear the young independently. I find those types of birds to be some of the best parents you can ask for.

Other species feeding begging young of different species is quite common in mixed aviaries. It may not happen in the wild but the confines of an aviary make it not that uncommon. I have seen many species do it over the years. The ones with the most noisy & persistent (annoying) begging calls seem to get more feeding responses.
