Sadly looking from the outside the Clubs and Club Branches need to really have a serious look at what they are doing.
It's not the first major problem that has confronted Victoria and Aust.
We are lucky to be able to keep birds at all.
Way back the Federal Govt tried to introduce the Vertebrate Pest Act plus other draconian measures.
It was fought well and hard, even to the point I flew to Sydney to represent AA at a rally at one of the major town halls.
Other people addressing the huge gathering included the RSPA etc.
Sadly I think the situation needs to be all or nothing because the way it is heading Victorian sales will just fade away.
Even at this stage we are looking to the sales over the river. It's a shame as the Victorian sales were the best run sales across
the lot.
Bird sale anouncement Victoria all states ???

Caught the end of 3aw conversation the other day on the radio.
It was that minister Jaula Paulford or whatever her name is. She was saying they are going to now target pet shops, controlling the numbers of cats and dogs being sold & supplied to them !

Another catch 22. If it stops genuine caring owners from selling their excess pups/kittens will they in desperation dump them? If it puts greedy uncaring "puppy farmers" out of business good, but what happens to the "battery hen" dogs and cats?

I'd be 100% fine with supporting a total ban on pet shops selling kittens and puppies all together. especially puppies. my simple reasoning is most pet shop purchases of these animals are impulsive, and most neglected pets are the result of impulse purchases. i see no catch 22 here. its an incredibly effective means to remove the main cause for neglected cats and dogs.

Outstanding work Sam and thank you for your persistence. I am not sure about a civil disobedience strategy, I would rather focus on trying to highlight the nonsensical elements of the legislation.
Reading the ministers letter quoting legislation did get me thinking about 'selling from a private residence'.
I wonder does this mean a sale can effectively be conducted at a private residence or is there more detail (that I cant see) to restrict sales to only the owner of the residence?
Looking out at my back yard, its not massive, nor is there sufficient cover given the sizes of the bird sales I have attended, but with some portable gazebos I'm sure we could get something happening?
I suspect there may even be folks out there with acreage, willing to give up some space for a day. If organised with some media presence to highlight just how silly the legislation is, (and how well these sales are run) it may only be a one time effort to get these clowns off their bums.
May be a silly idea but just trying to think outside the square..
Thoughts?
Mike

Update on the Victorian Bird Sale Exotics Issue.
In response to the FSA submissions (see below), we received an invitation to meet with the office of Minister Jaala Pulford . The meeting will be with the Minister's Chief of Staff and is scheduled for April 7th 2016. The FSA has been working behind the scenes to include and welcome input from all associations. It is terrific that the FSA, NFSA, CCBFA, VAC and ASA are now all working together to build a brief for this meeting to logically and in a reasoned manner present the evidence supporting our case. Please be aware that the meeting is to address the issues raised in the FSA submissions so we would be unwise to deviate significantly from the points raised in these documents. We welcome evidence from all parties.
FSA correspondence regarding this issue can be downloaded from our website as follows:
