Hi all,
I was waiting in the car park at McDonalds today and was watching a half dozen sparrows looking for crumbs and leftovers when an oldish Ford pulled in. Within minutes the birds were hopping in and out through the grill and picking out dead insects from the radiator. Smart little birds! They didn't seem concerned with being in a small dark space; they were in and out several times each. Gives another meaning to the term 'drive through and take away' :)

They never fail to amaze me.

I watch them at the local maccas. I like the way the follow me in on foot eat off the floor then stroll out once they have had enough.

In the sugar towns of North Qld, the Blue-faced Honeyeaters and Rainbow Lorikeets wait on the traffic light towers for sugar transports to stop at the red signal

They then land on the semis, eat any sugar they can find and fly back to wait for the next one, when the trucks move off,

While in Alice the Rainbow lorikeets visit the cafe scene, steel the bags of sugar out of the containers on the tables and fly off to consume the contents in a nearby tree.

cheers, case

Master,

Have travelled a squillion miles through all states, bar WA. Every place I have pulled up for fuel in the middle of nowhere or in rural town there is always a family of sparrows that have that own particular area. Moree is a classic, KFC carpark, Woolies carpark, behind the shopping center, every car carries that much food in the grill. Went through a locust swarm in north SA many years ago, stopped for fuel, had magpies and little crows picking them out of the grill. Fat as fools. Home delivered. Yes they are smart!

I was in Hawaii in 1979 and it became a real issue to sit outside a Maccas because of the Peaceful Doves, tiny as they are they can become irritating. especially when the become like the Currumbin Lorikeets at feeding time.

Ken.
