I have had a pair of of Gouldians that have gone down, with six eggs and should have been due to hatch this week. Today both were out of the nest box, so I thought I would have a peak and see what was happening. When I looked into the nest box all six eggs were gone    I couldn't work out what had happened, but soon realized that they had began to build over the the top of the eggs. I was not pleased, I can tell you :x

Anyway, just wanted to see if anyone else, had come across this before and has any suggestions :?: :?: Also do I need to get the old eggs out :?: :?:

What a pain, but such is keeping birds.

On happier not, I have two pairs with young in the nest a present, 3 should fledge any day and the other 4 might be a week away :) :)

I was told that will happen with Gouldians yesterday after picking a Hen up. I cannot remember the reason.

I don't know why they would build over them but I would definately remove them.

That's a zebras favourite bad habit..remove eggs ,start again and remove excess nesting material. It's usually the cock that does it.
