Angry Finches

Hi all,
I have two things to ask:
1. I have baby finches now almost covered in feathers, 4 of them. Still in nest atm. The mother and father are picking on another lone male who's partner died last week and i had to throw the eggs away. Its more so the mother female finch picking on the lone male, why is this happening? She chases him all over the avery!
2. I noticed the father of the babies has injured his wing today somehow, its sitting lower than the other wing and he isnt flying very well. No idea how this happened but is there anything i should do? Due to the female that died last week, i thought she had mites so i sprayed her and brought her inside, im not sure what killed her, the mites or me spraying her and bringing her inside So i am afraid to help the male with injured wing if you can imagine!

Fury i think the problem is that you had two mated prs so the pecking order was fairly even,once you have uneven prs there is always going to be aggression. Imo, your cock bird has damaged its wing fighting with the single cock bird so you need to remove the single bird urgently or one will damage or even kill the other. Craig

Hi again,
I have removed the lone male and brought him inside in a cage for now. The other father finch must be badly injured because his sitting on the bottom of the cage but can still jump around to the food and water etc but I don't think he can fly anymore! I am worried about him Will the mother keep feeding the babies without the father helping her?? Im concerned for the babies now too!! Here they are almost fully feathered!

If the cock bird can reach the food fine he is likely to call the hen to be fed and she will feed the young. Should be all good, and the babys will be out and down demanding food from dad soon enough.

This post is a little bit late but handy for the future, what I do is place a stick up to the perch near the nest, I have one in every aviary, but its mainly so the parents can get the babies back up to the nest at night.
But be careful if you have a mouse problem, you don't want mice getting into the nests.
I have had a few birds with wing problems, the bird usually picks up.
