I have this batchelor Crimson finch which has decided he wants to become a daddy, the young hen that he is with is too young to give him a family,
So he adopted three young Redface Parrot Finch youngsters as his own.
The photos might not be much good, but you could have floored me with a feather when I saw it happening time and time again.
Is this a rare case or has it happened to other people.

Looks like he is doing more than feeding. Look at that curved tail.

He said he is a batchelor,so I would assume there isn't a hen.Not sure about Crimsons, but I have a cock Pictorella that feeds young Diamond sparrows.

I say he's a batchelor, because the young hen that's in the same aviary I bred in January this year and is still going through the adult moult.
She is definately not sitting on any nest and there is'nt a pairing between them yet.
I can only assume that in the cold month that passed , he must have found the Red face box inviting and took up fatherly duties.
In 1 week I have not seen a Red Face near the young ones. So this is one for the books. :o :?
