The majority of Meal Worm breeders use Bran to raise the MealWorms. The reason is that Pollard compacts too much and
restricts the worms movement as well as less air pockets to allow them to spred out.
The only time we use pollard is for the Beatles to lay their eggs in and we can then sieve the Beatle from the
pollard holding the eggs.

Another good source of live food is the fruit fly trap. Just get an empty plastic fruit juice bottle, the ones with handles are easier to hang. Put 3 or 4 holes in the top half with an ice-pick, place turning soft fruit to about 5cm in the bottom. Then hang in the avairy, not pretty but effective.

I call them fruit fly cause the little sods attack my lemons, but they are the ones that only attack bruised fruit or fruit the birds have already damaged. Don;t know what a vinegar fly is but that could be it.

vinager / acid fly are the same thing. you can even culture them on cheese in a jar or half a tomato in a jar one you see the maggots crawling, you put some chux over the top and a lacky bad to hold it down till they turn to flies then release in the aviary.....pete
