help identify a stray finch
Hi there. Can anyone assist me to help identify a stray finch(?) that flew into my garage recently. He/she has a leg band, so not a wild one. I managed to catch him and he has since joined my aviary of four finches, but I'm eager identify his breed. He's about the size of my zebra finch, see picture below. Thanks, Jenti

Thank you so much Sam - you cannot believe how many finch websites I searched trying to identify him. I thought of the parrot finch, but didn't know about the variations. Yes, he was very lucky - I think he was attracted by the sounds of my finches just behind the garage. I guess he's part of the family now!

Not always the easiest of birds to sex, ideally I'd need the bird directly in front of me or in me hand to look closely but am quite confident enough to say that it does look like a henjenti wrote: 18 Jun 2017, 17:29 Thanks guys. Yes, a nice addition to my aviary. Any input on whether it's a cock or hen?

Welcome to the forum. Good that you rescued the little escaped lady and have given her a good home. How big is your avairy?
