Yep, doing the soaked seed thing but I'm only soaking it for 24 hours and I'm not using any Virkon S or anti-bacterial solution - just rinsing it with clean water. Would that be OK?

I put a bit of apple cider vinegar in the water when soaking.

Soaked seed is all mine get,I can't get enough green feed for my whole collection so non get it. Just soak your seed for a couple of hours,if you don't use
Virkon S rinse it and drain it well.It will keep in your refrige for a week and feed it out as required.Soaked seed IS NOT shot seed and should be refrigerated.

cranberry wrote:Well I had a sneek peak this morning and 6 have hatched - woo hoo! Now to get them to fledge. I have given them some Johnson's grass seed heads which the parents love (but I have now run out of) and they wont touch the soft food. Any suggestions on what else I can give them?
UPDATE...

I had another peak and now there are 4, all looking very healthy with full crops...but what happened to the other 2? They haven't been tossed and there is no sign of them in the nest. If they die can they waste away to dust in a few days so they can't be seen?

They could be under the other 4. Take a good look on the floor as I have found they camouflage very well, even quite a distance from the nest as I have heard of parents flying with a baby hanging from their foot. :?
