Finally Diamond success

After a year of waiting finally Diamond success .
My first time with this breed. Fledged two scruffy looking youngsters today.
I didnt think they were nesting in their nest, just rooting but I kept well clear of it.Nice surprise today.

Thats what i like to see! Diamies are one of the coolest finches of all time. Well done! Will have to get some tips off you when i buy a bigger house i realy do wanna keep them someday.

Not an easy bird to breed by any means also. I rekon alot of the aussies take time to settle down. My double bars took awhile even and there classed as easy.

Congradulations - I'm green with envy too. IIf you've got any hints please post them ASAP since I noticed swarking from my nest #11 of my pair on Yeseterday so I've upped the meal worm ration to twice a day and they are still going today. The birds aren't brooding during the day because its so hot (I'm in the Philippines "summer"remember) so I hope they don't forget their little charges. All their previous clutches have been sterile bar #9 which died on day 4 but I didn't think to increase the soft-food and mealworms. Well I wish you every success but if I can't crack the breeding problem I fear that this species is going to die out here.

Having read plight of GregH's post (toads not helping) I can certanlly relate.Abot six nests later.
Have done nothing more than what you are doing GregH.
Have had dry soft food all then time.
Nigger seed all the time.
Meal worms only 3 time a week.(more if I new they had babys).
Handful of greens every day(chickweed,velt grass ect.).
I didn't go too close to their nest, which is why I didn't know they had young. Have 6 goulds nest with young ment I didn't hear them either.
I do think they like the company of the other finches as there are about 56 finches with them when they bred.
Oh and i bit of luck.

Hi Will. Thanks for the encouragement. The little guys were still hanging in thismorning (- I can hear them). Their nest is diectly above the door so I can help but disturb them, however it takes a lot to get them off the nest when they are incubating. I don't nest inspect and seem to be doing the right thing by your reckoning, I don't give niger but in this climate they don't need it for the oil/energy content. I hope I can crack it as I don't want to be a nett consumer of birds but a producer and this pair is certainly willing to assist. Cheers
