Wait until the chicks have fledged for at least a week then paint their legs with olive oil.
Scalie leg at times is a Mite other times not. The best method is put oil on their legs just incase.
The oil will suffercate the Mite if it is there.
Also watch the parent Cubans as they could go back to nest very very quickly.
I doubt if it is fatal but is unsitely.

I am guessing the Olive Oil would be good for any Finch with Mites as i have a couple of Zebs with it on the feet? Have tried with the Ivermectin with a drop on the neck 2 weeks in a row, it seems to have slowed it but not cleared it up. Also was told today to even wipe the feet with the Ivermectin.
Breeding Show Zebra Finches, Blue Gouldians, Pied Orange Breast.

doesnt need to be olive oil just any edible oil , teh idea is to suffocate the mite as said. I have used old cooking oil that was meant to be thrown away on chooks and turkeys.
Just do it often till the mites have gone .

Not a bad idea to mix some Detol with the oil as this helps too.

only problem with detol is if you hit an open bit of skin the sting of the detol can put the bird in shock.
