Greetings,
Just wondering if anyone has experience with an aviary of all-male gouldians? I'm not interested in breeding, but also aware there may be fights etc.
Thanks

They'll all get along just fine.

Some forum members might argue that finches have a biological imperative to breed and will be unhappy if restricted from doing so

I tried to run seven cockbirds in a large (6mx5m) planted aviary with a few softbills & English Finches. I didn’t want to breed just wanted a bit of extra colour without the drain on the livefood. They were fine until their breeding season started, even in the absence of hens, they chased each other around the aviary constantly, each took over a nesting site & defended it which lots of gusto, even started driving the English Finches around the aviary. They caused lots of unrest in the aviary so I moved them on.

I think the problems arise if there are hens or nests for them to claim. Boys only - no nests - no reason to make claims. There are many situations in which all males exist together and survive without fighting.

I had male gouldians as my first birds - they'll get along fine as long as there's no nest sites.

Just be warned, they may get a bit randy with each other

They will do what all males in an all male environment do. Strutt and boast.
