Hi,

I have just been given a pair of cubans and I don't really know much about them. What requirements do they need (nests, diet, aviary etc)

Thanks
Aidan

I had the best success with them giving them an old plastic rat ball with the end open and a great deal of grass lengths. They packed it very well with a tunnel that turned a corner so you could not see in and produced well. Best Dad ever is pictured in my avatar. I gave them lots of green seeding grasses and weed grasses (roots and all so they could pick through for the insects) Reasonable finch mix fresh water. Medium size avairy. Not under a 2mtr cube. Don't mix with orange breasteds in case you get an agro one. The guy in the avatar was fine with them, but the one later on murdered them. Can be touchy with canaries too, but if outnumbered will settle down after pointing out who is the Boss.

Make sure to remove young, especially males as soon as they are independent

Wanna try my hand at Cubans, how would they fair with diamonds red brows a longtails? As I love my natives but wouldn’t mind a random pair of Cubans with them.

What do you mean by old plastic rat ball? This?

I think that Cuban males can be aggressive to stars or anything yellow as well.

That's the rat ball I meant - yes. Have not tried them with other yellow/Orange birds. Though no problems with the Gouldians who have a fair bit of yellow.
