G'day everyone
I was reading a memorial article today on a well known Ant bed parrot (Golden shouldered and Paradise Parrots) breeder Bill Howlett : http://www.aviculturalsocietynsw.org/_i ... cJ26mvVKUk
It says in that article he was believed to have a pair of Paradise Parrots in the 1980's (article was written in 1995 and Graeme Phipps the Author said he had them 15 years ago), but the Paradise Parrot went extinct just outside of Gayndah in 1927 (so believed)
I know this is a bit of a controversial and touchy subject (considering this is a finch forum, thats why I put it into the "Lounge" part of the forum), but I don't suppose anyone would be able to expand on this and provide a bit more of an insight.
Thanks
Noah Till

It mentions something about Paradise Parrots being rediscovered in central Queensland. I did some research and found no evidence of this? Is it true?

The only place is where they last fell extinct, which is outside of Gayndah
They were rediscovered there in 1925 I believe which turned up a few individuals, but unfortunately they eventually disappeared
You may have seen a pic of one on a termite mound
That pic is of one of the last ones left
Thanks

We had to make a parody of the Mona Lisa artwork to address a problem in the world, so I chose bird extinction (at school I am well known as 'birdman') and made the Mona Lisa look like a Paradise Parrot with deforestation in the background (I thought it looked ugly, but I got an A for it).

Well good job mate
I am known as "Noah's Birds" for my instagram and sales profile, and Bird boy as well, and another couple names that should not be mentioned
But back on topic anyway
I heard of a Mulga x Goldern Shouldered parrot hybrid, which is very similar to the Paradise Parrot
Thanks

Yes the last i heard was that they were Mulga parrot / Golden shoulder parrot hybrids and it was very controversial subject that the owner breeder denied.
Unfortunately they are gone though many have tried to prove they still exist in the wild, bit like the Thylacine they are still looking.

I would recommend reading a book called "Glimpses of Paradise" the quest for the beautiful parakeet by Penny Olsen by the National Library of Australia which details the wild and some captive details of the bird. Well worth the read!
