Do Gouldians malt from white chest to purple chest the following year?

Is the bird an Australian yellow split? As the degree of white on their chests sometimes varies.

I had a bird that started out with a white chest on its first moult but after its second moult ended up with half white/half purple. Never passed on the trait to offspring.
When all is said and done, more is said than done.
