Hi Everyone,
I'm just wondering at what age a Plum-Headed Finches can be separated from the parents and be sold? Also if Gouldians can be separated and put into a holding cage directly after they're independent or would it be like selling uncoloured gouldians, in that I should wait until first moult?
Thanks,
Aidan

I have always rung young gouldians when they leave the nest, then left them with the parents for at least a month after fledging. I also never sell a Gouldian that is not at least 3/4 coloured.

But can I put my young gouldians in a holding cage before they colour or not?

Yes you can take uncoloured Goulds out when independant
Plumbheads,.... as per usual around 5 weeks after fledging, or once they are eating by themselves

Never sell any baby finch until its beak has coloured up. For most finches this takes around 2-3 months after they leave the nest. This gives the birds time to learn from their parents and become mature enough to be separated from their parents and family.
You can separate the young birds (Gouldians) from the adults 3 months after they have left the nest. However, all baby birds do better when left with their parents for at least 6 months.
