It's about 1.5mm round and hard as, tan coloured. That's what it's always been called here.
It has been showing up as a filler seed from time to time when there are droughts or bushfires and the regular seed is in short supply or very expensive, over the past 20yrs.

Sorry - computor tragic and have not made the mistake of buying seed mix with it in in the past year.
It looks a lot like a mini pea, but is hard enough that you need a hammer to break it.

Domestic type of sorghum FB, usually for pigeon and parrot seed mixes and commercial use. Spear grass or wild sorghum is a different shaped seed altogether and eaten by gouldians and other finches in the wild.

The one that is turning up in the mixs here occassionally is the pea shape one that is for pigeons and rodents. Which is why we are getting peeved about it. :(

Going by this post I had better only comment about here on the East Coast.
Maybe we are spoilt but if I found any filler seeds in my mix I would either front the supplier or find one who
puts out a good quality mix all the time.
With exception of Niger(with a little Rape added) all seed is fed mixed
I am fortunate to be able to buy mixed seed direct from the grower, I know how old it is and if I wasn't happy I
can go direct to him. The mixes I get are good but I still add seed to them. My requirement with regard seed is quite large
and each rodent proof bin holds 10 bags. 3 bags Finch Mix, 3 bags of Budgie Mix, 2 bags of Red Millet(not Dakota) and
2 bags of true Yellow Pannicum. With regard Budgie and Finch mix, one contains a bigger percentage of plain Canary and
the other has some hulled oats added.
Remember if you are unsure of the seed quality soak and sprout some. Less than 75% your birds deserve better.

Unfortunately here on the west coast 450kms approx from the city. All the suppliers sell the same two brands. My regulars have spoken to the suppliers in the city when the % gets enough to be mentionable. If both are doing it you get no response, if one is and the other isnt things improve. We did have a patch where one was using red panicum and one was using Dakota. Needless to say that got turned arround. Budgie mix is easier to get action on than finch. Maybe because we have 3 rather large and well known breeders here.
