Hi, I was given these Gouldians on the weekend ...
And not sure which are females or males .
Also the lady that gave them to me called the yellow backs "cinnamons"
Could any one clear up what they are as to me they look like Euro yellows .
Thankyou .

There are 2 red head greenbacks. One has a blue legring and one doesn't by the way

I suggest they are all hens including the Euro yellows of which they are not cinnamons. When the beak shows any black on the green back birds they are hens coming into breeding season and the whole beak will go black. Bit harder with the Euros as they can't produce black but to my eye they are black headed hens.

The only one that might? be a cock - is the euro yellow with the pinkish ring. But otherwise I concur that you have a bunch of hens.

Really.. Wow...Thanks... she did say the Euro yellows were a pair but I wasn't sure...
So how do you tell that the black head and white breast is a female?

Best way to sex goudians is by the yellow stomach. The male has a darker yellow on the stomach where the hen is lighter in yellow colour. The first pic is a hen if it helps

Beak going black a bit, overall duller colors, but especially the blue "collar" is faint, small and patchy on females. Their tail is short with two small spikes, whereas males usually have 2 very elongated feathers.

Even on very colorful Green Back hens, the blue collar and beak will tell.

Colors aside, males sing, lower then shake head, and dance by stretching their body and jumping on the perch.

Females will chirp, lower and shake head, but won't stretch or jump.

They will do this even outside breeding season.

P.S. : The Read Head / Green Back / Purple Chest female in the first picture seems to have a very nice, brightly colored mask. Congrats.

They all seem to have nice clean (no flecking) heads.

Lucky you, right now in SA breeders have huge numbers of males, I'm just hoping out of my 10 babies, I get more females than males? Can live in hope?? :notsure:
