Hi all,

We are very new to the world of finches & have currently double barred, zebra, gouldian & emblema finches. Everyone has settled well & seem to be very happy. We have had many different comments on our emblema, the breeder told us they were a pair, however, we have been told many differing opinions.

From the photos can you help identify what each of this are?? One has been banded, which we were told is definitely the male.

FYI - I can no longer get in contact with the breeder.

Any help would be appreciated.

I think your breeder got it right. However that is one of the least red red cocks I have ever seen. While the hen is pretty normal. The amount of red on the face is greater on cocks. But usually so is the amount of red on the front.
Now the good news - it is strongly believed that cocks with less red are more likely to produce daughters. Hen birds are always easier to sell.
