HI all. I am closing in on the end of my first colony breeding season. The main issue is I have pairs that have recently fledged clutches ( and looking like going down again) and pairs sitting on eggs and others with young chicks. My question is,

What strategies do others employ to remove the breeding boxes?

Can I remove the vacant boxes, or would this place too much pressure on birds breeding at the moment, from pairs seeking to breed but with few/no boxes to choose from?

Is egg removal a strategy that helps if I leave the boxes in?

Interested to hear from those who have thoughts/experience on this. Cheers Mark.

I admit to just letting them decide when they have had enough and making sure to keep up the green seeds for as long as they breed and have fledgelings.

Agree with finch breeder, they will stop when ready. Most gouldian prs have an average 3 nests per season then stop. The only problem with that is late bred young may not fully colour at the end of the year but will colour enough to sex and sell on.
Even if you remove nests they will find something to nest in or on the floor.
If they look healthy and not burnt out leave them be imo šŸ¤·
