Hello! I am new to owning birds and got offered a orange headed, beautiful rainbow gouldian finch named Mercury. However, from reading multiple sources, I gathered they are mostly kept for breeding purposes, and are normally kept with at least 1 other of its species. I would still like to make him happy! Any advice on how I can maintain a satisfying relationship with my new friend, without obligatorily getting him another finch to be with? Thank you!

Finches are flock birds they need the company of other finches, just as people need the company of other people.

Finches need other finches, you could place another finch of a different species with him such as zebra finch to keep him company if you don’t want to breed.
