Spotted this guy in my local area...... thought people might like to see. Is it a possible mutation... or just a young bird???

I think a mutation, as I have never seen one like that before.

I agree with finchbreeder; the lines between the grey and the black are too clean to be the result of an unusual juvenile moult.

I like how it looks. Hope the predators don;t get it. But Maggies are pretty darn tough.

Having a 10 degree temperature jump overnight - mid 20s yesterday - high 30s today - Climate change is definately affecting us here.
Just glad I was not in Port Headland at 43 degrees already yesterday. The extra 4 degrees would have been a step too far.

Well it seemed adult size... so I think it seemed confident enough. It's in the Vermont area. I haven't been back in that exact area yet to see if it's still there, but yeah definetley haven't seen this colouring before, glad you guys enjoyed it

Bit of a delayed reply. . .Looks like a mutation to me . . I believe that SA Wildlife at some stage allowed the capture of mutation magpies for captive breeding. May stand correcting there. There are 'silver' mutation Mudlarks (Peewees) recorded probably same genetics. .
