Hi I’ve just bought 2 fawn javas that I’m not sure of sex yet. One has a very dark brown cap and tail which I thought was a male characteristic but it has pale eye ring and pale smallish beak it’s also quiet hasn’t made any sound yet. So my question is,is the head colour of fawns still accurate in sexing or can hens have very dark brown heads too ? Thanks

The cock bird has a bigger brighter coloured bill compared to the hen bird.
If you catch the birds and invert them so you can see under the bill there is a major difference where the back of the bill meets the feathers. The cock bird is ( shaped and the hen is V shaped.
Other than that get a DNA test done with a feather of each bird.
