Hi, I bought a partly coloured young gouldian some months ago. She has coloured up a little more but not fully. Should she colour up fully after the next moult or do some just stay like that? I’m in Perth, when do gouldians usually moult here?
Thanks

It's called partial moult and was bred very late in the season last year. It will still breed this year and fully moult out at the end of the season this year.
Being still a young hen they are partial to egg binding and really in experienced to raise young in their first year. Good luck

Hi Sharon,
In Perth Gouldians usually complete there moult just before Xmas.
As Craig said, if they are not mature enough at that time they will often not color at all or get "stuck in moult".
It does not affect their health and they will still breed
To prevent this I usually stop my birds from breeding after July and put the nests boxes back in during Feb (after the worst of the heat is over)
Left to themselves, many Gouldians will breed all year round, which is a strain on the health of the parents
Cheers
Brett

Up here Gouldians are all just starting to go to nest now.
Mind you this crazy weather is having weird affects - the canarys are also warbling - no full song yet.
