Well, im having a real run of it at the moment :( have a finch with a pasty vent. It keeps blocking so I have to clean it with a Q tip and warm water so she can poop...
Not fun for her, or me..

Unsure of age. But I treated for worms, cocci, canker a few weeks ago. So figure i can rule those out?

This started not long after treatments. Maybe 3 weeks after. Not sure if that could have caused a problem.
Initially I thought as she was sleeping in the box with the others she just had some poop stuck there..

I have taken her to the vet who put her on baytril for 5 days (last day was yesterday) today I've put probiotics in her drinking water.
Still no change in her symptoms.
Any suggestions?

I have cider apple vinegar here with the mother. Would that be better than the probiotics im using? Or am I barking up the wrong tree entirely?

Pics of her vent. And the poop that hit the sink when I was cleaning her.

Hate it when that happens.
Are you feeding anything different, over feeding something like green seeding grasses. What species is it.
Sometimes it is incurable and maybe an internal disease of the liver or another organ.
Apple cider vinegar maybe a harsh as well due to acidity so probably just a dry seed diet on its own in a heated cabinet and see how that works.
I'm not a vet just going by my experiences.

Hi Craig, thank you. I really hope it's not liver but im kinda suspecting that. She's a bengalese finch. She came in a bunch of others (unexpectedly lol) so I don't know much about her background. She's been with me about a year.
I have started introducing nutribird c15 pellets and nutribird fruitti pate now that you mention it. I will cut those out for a few days. I did cut back on greens but no change. She's reasonably well otherwise eating drinking etc. A little fluffed but who wouldn't be if they were in her position. Any possibility it could be constipation?

With constipation nothing would be coming out at all.
Bengo's carry a few diseases that really doesn't effect them but can pass it on to other birds especially if used for fostering other species of finches eggs to the young.
Breeders using them treat them with Ronivet to clean them out before using them as foster parents. All I know is it's a pink liquid when mixed with water.
I don't know if you can get in the UK if not try the dry seed only in a heated hospital cage at 27⁰ to 30⁰ C and clean water supply changed regularly due to the heat.
I don't know anything about pellet food for finches but would never use it here in Australia as they are seed eaters only 🤔 😕

I was give a few free bags of pellets as a promotion.
Put a small amount in with the seed to see the birds reaction, being something new, this has been continued for a year.
Complete waste of time. even the Canaries - who will eat anything - have not touched it.
Guess my birds know that good fresh seed and greens contain the essentials.

nothing was coming out so I have had to clean her, when I looked tonight it looks like there is a red mark on her cloaca..
It was the vet recommended the pellet diet and suggested I feed less seed as it was bad for them...
she is eating and drinking ok but still yellow poop..
I added some charocal and bird herbs in there to see if that helps at all.

They have all been treated for everything, I do have ronivet here though I used a different product this time.

Interesting, I have to admit I am not sure they are eating them and they are very expensive. But as I said to Craig, it was the vet who recommended i replace most of the seed with the pellets as they are "healthier" and they should not have so much seed.

I gave them some beetroot, lambs lettuce, baby spinach, kale and orange bell pepper all cut up very small earlier as they like it.

Raven11 hope goes well for you what ever you try for the bird
Bengo's are $5 to $10 each here in Australia but it is up to the person how much you would spend on trying to keep it alive or infections it could have to pass on to your other birds so if it continues to show symptoms then the kindess thing would be to put it down. 🥺

Is this an avian vet? Or a small animal vet?

Fb when I looked at the pics again I am leaning towards psittacosis as I had a hen bluecap with the same sort of droppings in fact I ended up in hospital for 2 weeks diagnosed with psittacosis that nobody wants to experience. Over a week on doxicycline infusion.
I could be wrong but I don't take chances anymore but I don't want to scare people either. 🥺
