Have a nest of 3 goulds atm, one has fledged a bit early. 1st time he came out on dusk and because its been so cold here at night. I put him back on as he was on the floor. Next morning he came out again and spent the day on the floor, so I left him to see how he went, which wasnt very well. Put him back in the nest box on dusk again so the cold doesnt wipe him out. This morning hes out again spending the day on the floor, I think he might be sick as he isnt flying and doesnt move much around the floor.
Do I put him back in again ?? (3rd time)
Is the mum or dad throwing him out ? Not sure on what to do, I know if I leave him there overnight he wont be alive in the morning the way the weather is.
Any suggestions would be good.
Sick Gouldie

How early has he fledged? Are the parents still feeding him even though he spends all day on the floor?
I think I would keep putting him back in, 3rd time might be the charm.
Is there an option of adding another nest box? At least whatever is disturbing him in the original nest would be gone, but "out of sight, out of mind for the parents" and they might stop feeding him.

Parents know hes on the floor, not 100% certain if they are feeding him though. Hes fully feathered and they arent far away from fledging. Maybe 4 days away ? I might try and put him back again tonight so hes warm again and go from there. This is the same nest that I had to clean out due to the creepy crawley thread, but he fledged before I cleaned it and put him in that day after it was cleaned. Hard to say what the cause is just wish he would stay in there till they are all ready lol.

sorry about the loss, do you think the one that died was the young one that kept jumping out the nest?

Yeah I do for sure. I still think they are out too early tho, as they are in a colony setup ( for this season only) its hard for me to get in and out to determine the hatch dates for the nest boxes in there. Theres always the possibility that mum
and dad like me cleaning out the nest a little too much, booted out the babies so they can go round 3 with all the new nesting material.

I know what you mean, I think that was the problem with a gouldian pair that only hatched out one baby, too much time on their wings and they kept plucking the baby to get him out of the nest so they could start again, bald head, chest and belly when he fledged.
