New To Owl Finches

Hello...my name is Katherine and I am from the US.

I just acquired a pair of Owl Finches (Male/Female) from a family member that recently passed away. I have owned budgies but never finches so I am doing some fast learning to get up to speed on these cute little fellows. I have had them for a couple weeks now and I notice that the female has some feather loss right around her black bar right under her beak area. I thought maybe she was molting but I am wondering if she has some other problem. Should I be concerned about this or just wait for awhile to see if the feathers grow back. She seems active and healthy and eats well. The male seems just fine at this time as well with no feather loss.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated. :)

Welcome to the forum.As for feather loss hard to say without Pic,If she's healthy just keep a eye on her and if it worsens seek help,all birds can suffer from feather loss at times.

Welcome ...the only time mine lost feathers around the face was when they were waiting for a larger cage , as soon as they moved and got more air and sunshine they feathered up and havent looked back.

Hi and welcome. Are you feeding them the same diet as they were used too? It is possible that if their diet has changed she could be lacking something she was previously getting.

They can be highly strung little buggers , give them a good diet and sunlight and see how they go , maybe some bird vitamins in the water may help them through.
