Will be if the cockies & the rest of the lorries start. Plenty of mice on the go to, & I dare say a few more rats will be in with the hazard reduction, not to mention the odd goanna

My lot have been good thru winter.. Gouldians good, Painteds exceptional.. I want to stop breeding soon to give them a rest until the new year.. I understand you guys in the colder areas have a different strategy...
Looking forward to breeding the pair of Cordon's I bought at Canberra, so planning for that...

The Quarrions will have the nest box taken off them after this clutch , 3 clutches through winter ( first 1 only 1 chick 2nd clutch being hand fed ) then I should have the platinums who will be ready to breed around x-mas ( maybe not if too hot) and thats about it for me ..may as well have them stuffed and mounted on a wall hahahahahaha no not really.

Blink,
The cordons probably won't breed this season, because they have just been moved.
Also, depending on who you got them off, it would be wise to acclimatise them because they are not used to the type of weather there.
If they were bought from Alf Watts (breeder on table nearest to curtain with lots of cordons) then they SHOULD be ok.

good luck with the birds, and well done with the new Gouldian and Painted babies! ;) :D

Got my two pair of Quail on nests. I thought i had three eggs in each but had a look this afternoon, but one egg has disappeared from one. Its my first go at Quails, so all good still. My Gouldians are quiet. I removed the black headed pair a month or so ago to give them a break - lost the male the other day. I found him flapping around and living on the bottom of the cage at first. He didnt seem to be able to fly all that well. Didnt think he would survive a day, but he lasted more than a week before i found him passed. Now i have a this years bred doing the same.....

Have lost a few of this years young over winter. Warmer months to come, so i am feeling positive with the 9 young or so that are left.

My red headed female is looking rather bare behind the head. Looks bald. Dont know if this is molting? or some condition.

My yellow backed pair i purchased a few months ago havnt done anything besides east sleep and excrete. No nest activity. Patience.

Oh, and the mice. Found a few dead on the aviary floor.

Just need to replace my black head male 'rainbow' and yellow head female 'rosie'

Yes they were from Alf.. and i also think that it is too early to expect much..

I am thinking of soon, removing nest boxes, all nesting material, and letting things settle down till the end of the year.. Clean aviaries, sort out what to keep, and then start fresh in January..

I understand things are different for people in different climates, but here on the coast breeders tend to start the breeeding season around mid January.

it is interesting to hear from people at the sale in Canberra last week, that now is the peak season for breeding. Obviously the cold is diffferent from out west to on the coast here in the Illawarra, and this affects the timing of it all..

Still learning this game, so bare with me...

6 white zebs in 1 nest, and a bloody dove nested in a feed tray ! lol, they lay eggs anywhere. Haven't been able to buy any other finches since I lost em all to predators a while back, there is just nothing around up this way ! The local pet shop keeps saying next week, next week, but has nothin yet. Wish I lived closer to some of you guys.
